4 star rating Right Across The Street From The Ocean Right across the street from the ocean on a happening strip. Our server was Falicia. She was very attentive. The bus boy was great with refilling water and taking the plates away. The food was good, but not probably worth the $175 for two, before tip. A cool open air restaurant/bar, though.1-10, I give the Fish Hopper and Steak restaurant an 8. - 3 days ago

5 star rating Pineapple Hopper Cocktail, Anyone?! We were seated quickly at lunch time, our drinks and food arrived fast, and Tony was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed cocktails (try the Pineapple Hopper for a frozen, fruity, rum drink in a pineapple), meals and then the trio sampler for dessert. We would recommend the restaurant and hope to go back again before we leave the Big Island. Our server gave us a great tip about which beaches to check out, and we were very pleased with the advice. - 1 week ago

5 star rating Toni top service Toni was our server and she was amazing. I asked her to suggest the meal and drinks and she was not wrong. One of the best meals we have had on Hawaii. Fresh fish and amazing drinks. We have eaten at many expensive restaurants in Hawaii yet we were quite impressed with the quality of fish at Fish Hopper. This is a beautiful location and it’s busy for good reason so I recommend a reservation. We can’t say enough positive points about our experience eating here but especially praise Toni’s wonderful demeanour and recommendations. We will be back! Gluten free menu and Keiki menu make it 10/10. Enjoy the view and the fresh fish and service. Mahalo. - 2 weeks ago

4 star rating Good food and great views of Kona Bay You can eat while watching the local swimmers have their morning exercise at the Fish Hopper. They have a good breakfast, lunch and dinner menu with local fish, etc. We tried several meals during our Kona stay and always enjoyed the food here. Prices are reasonable and food quantities are very filling. Service can be a bit slow at times as it appears they sometimes need more staff to keep up, but in general we aren't in a big rush when sipping our Kona coffee (excellent) and having a easy vacation meal. Flight of steps to gain access to the restaurant, so not wheelchair accessible. - 3 weeks ago

4 star rating Fresh and local Some local friends told us that the Fish Hopper was one of their favorite restaurants in Kailua-Kona. They also disclosed the location of the secret parking lot. They were on target with both recommendations. The Fish Hopper is a large open-air restaurant located on the north end of Ali'i Drive in the busy touristy downtown of Kailua. The comfortable dining room has an upscale island vibe and is staffed with helpful and competent servers. Our friends recommended anything on the large daily fresh sheet. We shared a wonderful and garlicky Caesar salad made with fresh local greens. My sweetheart ordered a whole locally raised Maine lobster stuffed with Dungeness crab and served with grilled shrimp and steamed veggies. The crab stuffing was superb but the lobster was rubbery. I ordered a whole fried local red snapper also served with grilled shrimp. The scoring on the flesh made it easier to extract the meat from the carcass of the fish. Unfortunately, the fish was overcooked and the meat was dry. We passed on the lovely offerings on the dessert tray. Pro tip: parking can be difficult and expensive in downtown Kona, but the Fish Hopper has its own private parking behind the restaurant. If going northbound on Ali'i , turn immediately before the restaurant into the unmarked driveway and up to the private parking. Dinner reservations are highly recommended. - 1 month ago

5 star rating Super fresh shrimp and seafood with the best crème brûlée on the island!! Wow! Great food GREAT service friendly manager/owner? and hostess. Make a dinner reservation and ask for the view - spectacular! We started with casual cocktails, the coconut shrimp appetizer, she had the shrimp trio dinner and I enjoyed the mahi-mahi crusted with macadamia nuts. Both dishes serve red perfectly and absolutely delicious. Don’t forget the crème brûlée desert - best on the island! They learned I was a veteran and presented a flag and special menu - Unforgettable service. We will be back - don’t hesitate make a reservation, this is a superb steak and seafood restaurant. - 1 month ago

5 star rating We happened upon this satisfying dining spot! Walking along the seawall at Kona, buying souvenirs, enjoying the views, we decided to get a late lunch. "Eat dessert first!" was my choice, and I was so glad I did! Kona coffee and Chocolate Passionfruit cake were a delightful treat, followed by the Shrimp Trio and Furikake Encrusted Mahi -- both delicious and well-presented. Nico provided excellent service with a smile in this place with art and ambience that made for a memorable occasion. - 1 month ago
